Thursday, April 3, 3-7pm, Warren Room, UC Berkeley School of Law
The Boalt Social Enterprise Group and the Impact Law Forum are excited to present a ground-breaking symposium on social enterprise law and finance. The symposium will explore cutting-edge legal issues faced by social enterprises in different stages of growth. Two panels consisting of social enterprise attorneys, investors, and entrepreneurs will engage in a discussion of the unique legal issues faced by social enterprises raising capital in both early and late stages of growth. The first panel will focus on the legal issues faced by start-ups in early stage financing such as entity selection, new fundraising opportunities presented by the Jobs Act, and compliance with associated state and federal securities laws. The second panel will focus on overcoming challenges in later stage financing such as preserving social mission on exit, and the potential legal implications for a social enterprise seeking exit through an IPO or merger/acquisition. The panels will be followed by a networking reception for students, attorneys, investors, and entrepreneurs in Steinhart Courtyard.
